Mid-year HR Check-in

Hot topics across various states include pay transparency, minimum wage, and leaves of absence. In Virginia, the following are two items that employers may want to be aware of:
Expansion of Non-Compete Ban (SB 1218)Virginia employers are now prohibited from entering into or renewing non-compete agreements with employees who are entitled to overtime pay under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This expands the existing ban that previously protected only “low wage” workers.
Workplace Safety Plan Mandate for Hospitals (HB 2269)Virginia hospitals must now implement a workplace violence incident reporting system to document, track, and analyze all reports of workplace violence, part of a broader push to improve safety in healthcare settings.
If you haven’t reviewed your employment agreements or safety protocols lately, now’s the time.
