Mid-Year HR Check-In: Essential Updates for 2025
Every HR team should conduct a mid-year pulse check. There’s no better time than now, especially with new employment laws that took effect on July 1. Hot topics across various states include pay transparency, minimum wage, and leaves of absence.
Key Updates in Virginia
In Virginia, employers should be aware of the following two significant changes:
Expansion of Non-Compete Ban (SB 1218)
Virginia employers can no longer enter into or renew non-compete agreements with employees entitled to overtime pay under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This expands the previous ban that only protected “low wage” workers.
Workplace Safety Plan Mandate for Hospitals (HB 2269)
Virginia hospitals must now implement a workplace violence incident reporting system. This system is designed to document, track, and analyze all reports of workplace violence. It’s part of a broader initiative to improve safety in healthcare settings.
If you haven’t reviewed your employment agreements or safety protocols lately, now’s the time to do so.
If your organization operates in multiple states, remember to check for multi-state compliance updates as well. With Pulse HR Subscription Services, you’ll receive proactive support to stay compliant and confident year-round.

🎙️ Bad Boss Files: Lessons from the Worst
We’ve all had that one boss. The one who made you question your career choices, your confidence, or your will to work with people ever again.

Maybe they micromanaged your every move.
Maybe they disappeared when it mattered most.
Maybe their version of “feedback” felt more like a personal attack.
Whatever their style, one thing is certain: bad leadership leaves a mark. But let’s be honest, bad bosses also make great stories. And we want to hear yours.
That’s why we’re launching Bad Boss Files: Lessons from the Worst, a podcast that digs into real leadership horror stories. We will uncover what went wrong, what (if anything) could have been coached, and how to build better leaders moving forward.
Whether you're a leader, a learner, or just someone who survived the chaos, there’s something valuable in every story.
💬 Here’s Where You Come In
We’re collecting real stories from real people. Whether your story is funny, frustrating, or just flat-out unbelievable, it matters. By sharing your experience (anonymously if you’d prefer), you’re helping to spotlight toxic leadership and spark conversations that lead to better workplaces.
The episodes are short. The stories are real. The leadership lessons are clear.
Share your story at pulsehrsolutions.com/shareyourstory or email us directly at badboss@pulsehrsolutions.com
Because let’s face it, nothing bonds us quite like a bad boss and a good laugh. Even the worst boss can teach a powerful lesson. Your story might be the one that helps someone else finally walk away or step up.
🎙️ Bad leadership. Good stories. Great lessons.
Our first episode drops soon. Follow Bad Boss Files Podcast on Spotify or Apple to catch it the moment it drops.
